Welcome to ProAm's Genomics Program for Athletes

ProAm Genomics optimizes athletic performance by analyzing your entire genome, identifying  your genetic predispositions across Endurance, Strength, and Power as well as dysfunctional genes most influential to biological processes  associated with athletics and optimal performance, and applies treatment and training recommendations to improve dysfunctional and compromised conditions.

Please keep in mind that we are NOT limited by our genetics. Our Genomics Program addresses your physical and biological components as they apply to athletics and does not take into consideration the determination and drive that  pushes you to perform and compete at your very best. However, when your efforts are aligned with our treatment recommendations, you are bringing the very best version of yourself to the field of competition.

There are athletes who are genetically blessed that never become champions and athletes with typical genes that through sheer will and preparation, dominate. Our Genomics Program provides insight and guidance to your preparation.

PROGRAM OUTLINE

Athletic ability starts at the genetic level and while we cannot change our genes we can support and improve the biological functions and conditions associated with dysfunctional genes. Using our proprietary, athlete specific dna test, we identify issues within your genetic coding sequence that could be compromising athletic performance, health, or lead to injury and improve those conditions through targeted supplementation, diet, training, and lifestyle modifications.

One test unlocks a lifetime of improved performance by optimizing gene function in key areas of athletics including:

  • POWER
  • STRENGTH
  • ENDURANCE
  • MUSCLE AND RECOVERY
  • DETOX AND FREE RADICALS
  • RISK OF SPECIFIC INJURY
  • FITNESS MARKERS, VO2, etc
  • MENTAL AND BRAIN HEALTH

Your genetic predisposition can be useful in determining not only the appropriate sport but also the appropriate position within a sport as well as guide you into the appropriate strength and conditioning routines that strengthens your genetic weaknesses and emphasizes your genetic strengths. This is extremely useful to your athletic trainers and coaches in developing athlete specific training programs.

What separates our comprehensive Genomics program from other DNA testing services is in addition to examining the entire Genome, 23,000 genes, we are also a medical practice, able to provide medical oversight to results including safe and effective treatment solutions that consider both traditional and holistic medicine. While other DNA testing services provide the disclaimer Consult with a healthcare professional before making any major lifestyle changes or if you have any other concerns about your results, we are healthcare professionals.

Our Genomics Program includes:

  • DNA test that evaluates eight key areas of athletics throughout the entire genome
  • Advanced insight into your unique DNA and biological functions
  • Result specific treatment programs administered by medical providers
  • Ongoing medical provider access
  • Your SWAMI personalized food list and recipe book based on your blood type, secretor status, and DNA test results to provide the best fuel for your body
  • 30% off all Designs for Health/Designs for Sport supplements
  • Secure encrypted storage
  • A lifetime of improved health and athletic performance

Our medical providers develop athlete specific performance improvement programs based on DNA test results that not only take into consideration an athlete’s genetic make up but also the athletes primary sport because we recognize that each sport has a specific set of physical and biological requirements that influence performance and success. For example, a Football player who is looking to improve power is not as concerned about adding 5 pounds of muscle as a boxer who is looking to improve power would be so each athletes program is unique even though their goals are the same.

SWAMI is the gold standard in blood type based diets with over 96 variable diets that we are able to further dial in specific to your secretor status and DNA test results.   While we still recommend adhering to traditional sports nutrition ratios of 60% carbs, 20% protein, 20% fats depending on sport, SWAMI further identifies what foods you should and should not eat within the appropriate ratios with the added benefit of being ant-inflammatory and most harmonious to your genetic makeup. To do otherwise would be the equivalent of putting regular fuel in a Ferrari and in some cases, much worse.

We have partnered with the highest quality supplements available through Designs for Health and NSF certified Designs for Sport to offer our patients significantly discounted rates around customized supplementation for maximum absorption and benefit.

This combination of optimal diet along with the highest quality and targeted supplementation provides the energy, gains, and recovery needed to reach your peak potential.

MORE ABOUT GENETICS AND OUR GENOMICS PROGRAM

The 23,000 genes in the human body come in pairs, each coming from our parents, with each set of genes responsible for a particular function or trait such as the color of our eyes, how efficiently we process glycogen, metabolize fats, etc.

A functional gene is when both genes are performing properly and do not pose a health risk. A dysfunctional gene is when one or both genes are not performing properly, both dysfunctional genes posing the most risk and chance of adverse health conditions or diminished athletic performance.

Because the average person can have up to 2,000 dysfunctional genes, it is imperative that an experienced ProAm health care provider determines the severity of dysfunction, it’s effects on each patient, and the priority of treatment specific to each patient.

Improvements to compromised genes are made through targeted supplementation, diet, and lifestyle modifications. Our patients are provided a blue print to optimal health and peak performance that can be adjusted based on their health priorities and budget. Likewise if a patient has already performed a comprehensive genomics test, ProAm can review and provide a customized treatment plan.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DNA TESTING AND LABWORK?

The difference between DNA testing and lab work is that while lab work provides a current state of your biology and can identify current health issues such as high cholesterol, low testosterone, and active liver disease, genomics testing provides detailed insight into underlying medical issues and dysfunctional biological processes that may or may not be effecting current health or athletic performance. Think of Genomics as the foundation and lab work as a window into the current state of our health, both providing key insights and when performed together, leaves no stone unturned.

HOW DOES GENETIC TESTING IDENTIFIES HEALTH AND PERFORMANCE ISSUES?

  • Diagnosing and confirming conditions: Genetic testing can confirm a diagnosis based on symptoms or injury and provide a more precise diagnosis if the cause is unclear. This is crucial for conditions that are not easily identifiable through traditional methods.
  • Identifying disease susceptibility: Testing can reveal a higher risk for developing certain diseases, injury, or compromised health such as specific cancers, heart disease, or virus. This allows for proactive health management.
  • Understanding a diagnosis: For individuals with existing conditions like asthma, regular musculoskeletal injury, or neurodevelopmental disorders, genetic testing can help determine if there is an underlying genetic cause, which may lead to a more targeted treatment and management plan.
  •  We can identify the cause of an adrenaline dump at the begging of a fight through dysfunctional genes associated with the adrenal gland and improve that  biological process through targeted supplementation, training modifications based on genetic predispositions, and proper diet.  This is just one of the 100’s of conditions caused by dysfunctional genes that we identify and improve upon through our Genomics program, leading to a base of health and proper metabolic function from which peak performance can be built
